Use Chemistry Filters and Check Extraction Progress

Already have a mixture and the tools? Check whether extraction has finished, fit the filter in the right place, and compare the mixture before and after filtering.

Quick answer

Fit the filter in the Water Pitcher, then pass the mixture through the pitcher. Use the Composition Spectrometer on the liquid container to read its composition. Finish extracting the mush before filtering it out.

Check extraction before filtering

Judge the reaction by changes in composition, even if the liquid does not change color. Use the Composition Spectrometer on the container being heated and keep its composition panel open.

For mushroom extraction, watch the corresponding Mush and Extract. For coffee, watch Coffee Bean Mush and Caffeine. Use the solvent and temperature range required by your chosen recipe, then read the changes:

Mush decreases and the target component appears or increases.Extraction is still progressing.Keep watching. The first appearance of extract does not mean this step is finished.
The mush being converted is used up and the target component remains. This extraction step can end.Stop heating for this step, then follow the recipe's cleanup and filtering steps.
The mush is gone, but the target component is also absent. This is not a successful extraction.Check whether overheating broke down the target component, or whether filtering removed the material before extraction finished.

Opening the scanner shows the reaction; it does not start it. Recipes use different temperatures, solvents, and follow-up steps, so use the composition readings instead of a fixed waiting time.

Fit the filter in the Water Pitcher

The filter goes in the Water Pitcher's filter slot. Do not use the filter directly on a small bottle containing raw-material mush. Keeping a pitcher and filter in your inventory will not filter the mixture automatically.

Water FilterFiner filterable components such as Physical Contaminant and Mineral.
  1. Finish extraction for your current recipe, keeping the mixture that contains the target extract. If there is mush still being extracted, check its progress before filtering.
  2. Fit Kotton Fabric with durability remaining in the Water Pitcher. Check that the pitcher has enough free space, then pour the mixture into it.
  3. If finer filtering is needed, transfer the liquid back into an empty container, replace the fabric with a Water Filter, and pass the liquid through again. You can also use a second pitcher already fitted with a Water Filter.
  4. Scan the same batch before and after filtering to check what changed.

Do not filter early just to make mush disappear. Mush is material that has not finished extracting. Filtering it out too soon loses the active components that have not yet been extracted.

Check the filtered mixture

Use the Composition Spectrometer to compare the same batch before and after filtering. The particles you intended to filter should decrease, while the target extract or Caffeine should still be present.

If the particles have not decreased, check the filter's remaining durability. If it is used up, fit a new filter and pass the liquid through again.

Kotton Fabric cannot remove every dissolved contaminant. Check the individual components rather than treating the mixture's overall water-quality grade as proof that the target extract is present.
